Devon Day Trips - Clovelly

A quick 20 minute drive from the Barn will take you to the quaint fishing village of Clovelly.

Main Street - Clovelly

Clovelly has been owned by the Rous Family for over 400 years, which explains how it's managed to keep it's charm.

When you arrive at Clovelly, you will find parking at the top of the village - cars are not allowed on the winding cobbled streets. Access to the village is through the visitors center and costs £7.50 per adult and £20 for a family. - Dogs are allowed, so Indie came with us.

At the visitors centre, you can watch a short film about the history of Clovelly, which is very interesting. Film or no film, the next option is to go down, down, down into the village, which for us was a little tricky as the cobbles were damp and Indie decided pulling on the lead would help.

We headed straight down to the harbour, as it was low tide and we wanted to walk along the - pebbled - beach to see the waterfall, which, after the rain from last night, did not disappoint.

The Harbour View

On the way back up the hill, we stopped off at the 'Fishermans Cottage' which shows how a fisherman and his family lived in the 1930's, as well as a couple of craft shops, seling handmade cushions, fabrics and prints.

We had lunch at the New inn Hotel, which allows dogs and serves classic pub grub in a friendly setting.

Pup Friendly

An excellent way to spend a winters afternoon.
